Show Description
Argentina’s controversial First Lady is the subject of this dynamic musical masterpiece. As an illegitimate fifteen year old, Eva escaped her dirt-poor existence for the bright lights of Buenos Aires. Driven by ambition and blessed with charisma, she was a starlet at twenty-two, the president's mistress at twenty-four, First Lady at twenty-seven, and dead at thirty-three. Eva Peron “saint to the working-class, reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military” was destined to leave a fascinating political legacy unique in the 20th century. Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin, pop and jazz influences, EVITA creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.

EVITA was first performed at the Prince Edward Theatre in London on June 21, 1978 and starred Elaine Paige as Eva Peron. Harold Prince directed. EVITA opened on Broadway on September 25, 1979 at the Broadway Theatre and ran for 1, 567 performances. Patti Lupone, Mandy Patinkin and Bob Gunton starred under the direction, again, of Harold Prince. (Rogers & Hammerstein Website)

Character Descriptions/Casting Needs
EVA PERON:
Dynamic actress with superior vocal abilities. Huge range (belt/soprano mix). Must also move well. Plays from mid teen’s to sultry 20’s, into sick woman in early 30’s.
Must have full availability during rehearsal period!!
CHE GUEVERA:
Super strong tenor with large range. (Created by Mandy Patinkin) An actor who can electrify the audience one minute and then having them laughing at him the next. Should not be younger than mid 20’s, but not older than playing mid 30’s. Che narrates the piece and is onstage throughout the production. Also should move decently. Will require growing a beard. Must have full availability during rehearsal period as character has solos and also works a lot with the ensemble in large production numbers.
JUAN PERON:
Full range baritone. Requires strong actor who can seduce the audience with his charm, while they are also intimidated by him. Plays late 30’s-mid 40’s. Must move/waltz.
AUGUSTIN MIGALDI:
Tenor/baritone with high chops. Argentinean singer/tango dancer. Has the look and appeal of a “sleazy” Rudolph Valentino. Actor may be used in other segments of show as well. Should have fluid body movement as he walks and dances.
PERON’S MISTRESS:
Mid teens; a sultry Lolita type. She is a child in a woman’s body. Pretty soprano vocal quality. Solo vocal.
ALL OTHER ROLES WILL BE PART OF THE ENSEMBLE, WHO APPEAR IN MORE THAN 70% OF THE PRODUCTION. NEED SOLID & STRONG VOCAL ENSEMBLE FOR THIS ANDREW LLOYD WEBER/TIM RICE OPERA!
A CHILDREN’S CHORUS WILL ALSO BE UTILIZED IN THE SHOW. THEY ARE FEATURED IN ONE SECOND ACT NUMBER “SANTA EVITA”. REHEARSAL TIME WILL BE ON A LIMITED BASIS FOR THE CHILDREN UNTIL TECH WEEK.
